Greenbank Masjid – Itikaf Programme Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

1.1 These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern participation in the Itikaf Programme (“Programme”) organised by Easton Islami Darasgah, hereafter referred to as Greenbank Masjid (“GBM”).

1.2 By signing the Itikaf application form, participants (“Mu’atakifeen”) agree to abide by these Terms in full.

1.3 These guidelines are established for Health and Safety considerations. Failure to comply with these Terms may result in immediate removal from the Programme.

2. Eligibility and Registration

2.1 The Programme is exclusively for adult male participants (18 years and over).

2.2 No children (under 18 years), whether belonging to a Mu’atakif or others, are permitted in the Programme or Itikaf Room at any time.

2.3 Maximum capacity is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to GBM members.

2.4 GBM reserves the right to refuse participation to any person. Such decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

3. Health and Safety

3.1 COVID-19 Protocol: a) Any Mu’atakif displaying symptoms of COVID-19 (sore throat, temperature, loss of taste) must immediately inform the Amir and undergo PCR testing. b) If a test returns positive, the affected individual must leave the premises immediately. c) All Mu’atakifeen will require PCR testing in the event of a suspected case, with positive cases required to leave immediately. d) The Designated Area of Itikaf will undergo deep cleaning in such circumstances.

3.2 Fire Safety: a) In the event of a fire alarm, all participants must evacuate the building according to the published fire action plan. b) Mu’atakifeen are required to familiarise themselves with the fire action plan. c) An appointed Amir will act as fire marshal for the group.

3.3 Electrical Safety: a) No plug-in appliances are permitted except for mobile phone chargers. b) The use of irons, fans, and personal heaters is strictly forbidden.

4. Accommodation and Facilities

4.1 A designated Itikaf area with individual cubicles will be provided for Mu’atakifeen.

4.2 Room temperature will be maintained at 21 degrees Celsius.

4.3 Only chairs provided by GBM may be used for sitting.

4.4 Mu’atakifeen must provide their own bedding and food.

4.5 All personal belongings must be kept tidily within allocated cubicles.

5. Food and Dining

5.1 Eating and/or drinking (including snacks) is strictly prohibited in the Prayer Hall and designated Itikaf Area. Only clear water is permitted in these areas.

5.2 Iftaar and Sahoor (including snacks) must be consumed exclusively in the designated eating area.

5.3 Kitchen Usage: a) Mu’atakifeen must maintain kitchen cleanliness at all times. b) The kitchen extractor fan must be switched on when using the cooker. c) All equipment must be returned to its proper place after use. d) Food waste (e.g., fat, rice, oil) must not be discarded down sinks or wudhu areas.

6. Hygiene and Sanitation

6.1 Shower Facilities: a) Mu’atakifeen must ensure shower areas are cleaned after use. b) Showers must not be used after 11:00 am on Fridays due to water supply issues. c) A donation of £2 per shower to GBM is requested. d) Bar soap is not permitted.

7. Security and Visitation

7.1 Main doors must remain locked at all times except during Salaat times.

7.2 Visitation Policy: a) Extended family members may visit only during Salaat times. b) At all other times, only immediate family members may visit.

8. Conduct and Prohibitions

8.1 Internet use is not permitted.

8.2 Viewing video content on the premises is forbidden.

9. Liability and Damages

9.1 Any damages to GBM facilities (including carpets) caused by negligent, reckless, or wilful actions of a Mu’atakif must be compensated by the responsible individual.

9.2 Mu’atakifeen bear all responsibility and liability for their stay. GBM accepts no liability for extended stays on the premises, as the facilities are generally only open for timed prayers.

10. General Provisions

10.1 Mu’atakifeen agree to abide by GBM’s Mission Statement and other policies.

10.2 GBM reserves the right to alter these Terms at any time.

10.3 An Amir will be appointed from among the Mu’atakifeen to serve as the point of contact with the Management Committee.

11. Privacy Policy

11.1 Participation in the Programme is subject to GBM’s Privacy Policy, which governs the collection, use, and protection of personal information.

11.2 For complete information regarding how your data is handled, please refer to our Privacy Policy available at greenbankbristol.org/privacy or upon request from the Management Committee.

11.3 By completing the Itikaf application form, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to our Privacy Policy.
